There are many good reasons to travel to Victoria BC: a beautiful, historic downtown; great museums; fantastic restaurants and then there is the shopping. Another good reason is the arts, with some of the finest musicians, artists and dancers performing in Victoria.
On Saturday, November 7, 2009, folks in Victoria will have an opportunity to experience something extraordinary when David Hickey from Mount Hope, Ontario, performs with over twenty Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls. Each bowl produces its own unique, pure sound. David Hickey plays them along with ten Paiste Gongs and Vibraphone. In his words, “Each gong features a strong fundamental note tuned to represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Sun, the Earth, the Moon and the other planets. It’s like having a full orchestra.”
In addition to being beautiful to the ears, the music created is intended to be meditative and healing. Each performance is unique, as each is completely improvised.
David Hickey has been sharing his ethereal music throughout Canada for the past five years, and has released six CD’s. Don’t be surprised to hear him include a variety of instruments on November 7th, includin the harp, piano, keyboard, guitar, mandolin, flute, didgeridoo, orchestra bells, tabla’s and djembe. He lists Jerry Garcia, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Bob Marley, and Frederick Chopin as a few of his musical inspirations.
