Where can you find a juried arts and crafts show featuring nearly 50 artisans, live music and dancing, a world-class invitational sand sculpture contest, great food and drink, two classic car shows, live art demonstrations, all in a fun street-fair atmosphere in a beautiful waterfront setting?

It's all there for your enjoyment at Port Angeles Rotary Nor'wester "Arts in Action Festival", July 23-25, 2010, at the Port Angeles city pier. Artisans from throughout the Puget Sound region will display, demonstrate and sell their crafts and artistic creations. New to the festival this year is the Port Angeles Art Council, providing art demonstrations and interactive art projects at the Gateway Center. Festival Sponsor Windermere Real Estate welcomes eight world-class sand artists to the Invitational Sand Sculpture Competition.

This year's theme is "Legends of Science Fiction". Come and see these artists create amazing and gravity-defying sand sculptures, all while they compete for qualifying spots in the international sand sculpture final competition to be held in Federal Way, Washington later this summer. What would summer be without the chance to view and admire classic cars? On Saturday the Festival features the Dream Machines and on Sunday we will have Porches on the Pier.

A wide variety of live entertainment will be on stage throughout the Festival. Food vendors and a beer and wine garden will fill your hunger and thirst. Festival hours are Noon to 7 Friday, 10 - 8 Saturday, and 11 to 5 Sunday. We look forward to seeing you there. Be sure to check out all of the action at the Landing Mall just across the parking lot from the festival action: restaurants, art galleries, a souvenir shop and the Victoria Express terminal.

The Pacific Northwest is known for many things; Microsoft and Starbucks. Salmon. Kurt Cobain and Grunge. Rain. Most people who have never visited the region can tell you this much.
Ah, but anyone who has ever been to the Pacific Northwest will also speak of mirroring mountain ranges, snow capped volcanoes, large bodies of water, islands and ferries. They'll tell you that when it was gray they felt downcast and compelled to drink espresso, and when the skies cleared, they were floored by the mountain views.
It is practically an obligation for travelers to the Pacific Northwest to hop on a boat and head to an island. It's fun for residents, as well.
With this in mind, we heartily suggest a Scenic Day Cruise to San Juan Island aboard the Victoria Express ferry to Friday Harbor.
Do you have a fascination for the ocean and all the amazing things that live in it? Imagine the opportunity to view and experience live marine animals in easy to access Touch Tanks just steps from our ferry terminal in the Port Angeles harbor.

At the Center you will marvel at the variety of marine life on display, there are hundreds of examples of inter-tidal creatures, fish, and plant life as well as "dry" displays to enjoy. You an study live plankton under microscopes as well as touch live sea creatures.
Bobbi Fuller, owner of the Elwha Dam RV Park just east of Port Angeles shares this story with travelers visiting the Pacific Northwest: “If you are researching points of interest, breath-taking "must see" places to visit, and fun things to do while visiting the Olympic Peninsula, be sure to put on the top of your ‘To Do’ list a boat ride with "Captain Jack" on the Victoria Express passenger ferry.

Of course that means a quick 55 minute sailing to beautiful Victoria B.C. or a full day cruise to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in the Salish Sea. “Captain Jack” will enthusiastically name all of the sea birds and other critters encountered on the cruise. In fact, he may even make an opportunity for passengers to enjoy a few moments watching the dolphins, Orcas, harbor seals, or sea otters playing in the kelp; all the while keeping on time with his Victoria BC, Friday Harbor and Port Angeles passenger ferry schedules.

Historic walking tours run every 30 minutes during the weekend, and include a visit to the Port Angeles Underground. Port Angeles was long an important logging center for the Olympic Peninsula. The downtown area streets were raised in the early 1900s and many fine older buildings were lost; their remains were recently discovered underground and a restoration process has begun. Gain insight into the true history of Port Angeles (brothels? who knew?). Learn even more, and have more fun during the Port Angeles Heritage Weekend, August 8 and 9, 2010.
